Let me know a little bit about you (How long you have been scrolling, what type
of scroll saw you have, any story of interest that can be included, and also
some pictures of you and your work. Please include a phone number where I can
reach you so I can do an interview.
***TIP***
Since my special this month is on steel squares I thought I would let you know
how to use them to line up your scroll saw and make sure things are just right.
First of all if you are stack cutting this is real important. The blade needs to
be perfectly lined up so that the top piece is the exact same as the bottom
piece.
The 2" steel square is just the right size to fit underneath the blade
holder and touch the blade. This way you can make sure your table is lined up
perfect.
Put a blade in the saw and tension it the way you will cut with it. Loosen the
table so that you can adjust the tilt. Make sure the blade is in the up stroke
(all the way up in the cutting motion). Then put the steel square right up next
to the blade and make any adjustments to the table to make it a perfect 90
degrees. Tighten the knob to make the table tight again. Recheck to make sure
the table did not move when tightening. Now put the blade in the down stroke.
Flip the square over so that it will fit up next to the blade. Recheck to see if
it is still a perfect 90 degrees. At this point your ready to start cutting. If
it is perfect in the up stroke and not in the down stroke then you have a
problem. This is caused be the arms of the saw not being perfectly aligned. On
some saws this is not hard to fix.
Example: Dewalt DW788 20" scroll saw. The blade holders have a set screw on
the top and the bottom. You can adjust the top, bottom or both to make minor
adjustments. If the blade tilts to the left then you would screw the top set
screw in and the bottom screw out. This would line up the blade to be straight.
Always recheck with the steel square to make sure your adjustments worked.
If you have any tips that you
would like me to add to future EM's let me know. I love to share all the great
tips out there.
I have included a free pattern
with this EM. This is a one of my favorites. Just cut it out of 1/2" to
3/4" wood and leave enough room on the edges to make the boarder or frame.
I should have the Diamond blades
back in stock by the end of the month for all of those that have been
enquiring.
